The Virtual Museum for Contemporary Art from China intends to develop itself into a comprehensive source of visual and textual documents for researchers and art lovers alike. Our collection represents the growing ability of contemporary Chinese art to provide users with inspiring images--from the world's renowned masterpieces to previously unpublished treasures, to materials that are not allowed to be exhibited in China today. Over the past few decades, the needs and interests of understanding ever-changing contemporary Chinese culture and society have become more complex. The Virtual Museum is also devoted to tracking and documenting the contemporary art development in China: how, in different periods, art played different roles, periods when art was deliberately used by different groups of people for various social and political purposes.
