Artist's Page: Gao Hong (b. 1926)

Gao Hong was born in 1926, at Xinle, Hebei Province; he joined an anti-enemy opera troupe of the political department of the Jin-Cha-Ji military region in 1939.. He was trained as a painter during this war-time and finally received formal training at the Department Oil Painting, the Central Institute of Art in 1957.

Due to his military experiences he specilised in paintings of military subjects and works as professional aritst in the National Military Museum, Beijing. His most famous work is Shangganling that depicts a bitter battle in the Korean war.
