Xinbo (b. 1915)
Huang
Xinbo was born in 1915 in Taishan, Guangdong Province; he became most eloquent
in commenting on social and political situations of the 30s and 40s through
his prints. In 1933 Huang Xinbo and Liu Xian (b. 1915, Henan), organized the
Wuming Society for Woodblock. Sponsored by the advocater of modern print-making
in China, Lu Xun, Huang went to Japan to study woodblock printmaking, but soon
returned to China after the Japanese invasion. In 1938, Huang went to Wuhan,
he and others organized the All-China Association of Anti-Japanese Invasion
Woodblock Printmaking. After 1949, Huang worked mostly in Guangzhou.
